    Col. Llewellyn "Buddy" Hālona was born on December 20, 1920 in Lahaina, Maui, Territory of Hawai‘i to parents Charles Kekua Farden (1871-1945) and Annie Kahalepouli (Bastel) Shaw (1880-1946). He grew up in a large family with 12 siblings in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii Territory. Llewellyn Halona Farden, a white male, embarked on his military journey at the age of 22. He registered for military service on May 28, 1943, in Lahaina. Llewellyn stood at a height of 5 feet 11 inches and weighed 185 pounds. He had a dark complexion, black hair, and brown eyes. On September 23, 1943, Llewellyn enlisted in the Army, beginning a significant chapter in his life. He dedicated himself to his military service for nearly four years, until his honorable discharge on May 17, 1947. However, his commitment to serving his country did not waver. Just a day after his discharge, on May 18, 1947, Llewellyn made the decision to reenlist in the Army. This second enlistment marked the beginning of an extraordinary commitment that would span over three decades. Llewellyn continued to serve with distinction and loyalty until his final discharge on December 20, 1980, after an extensive and admirable career in the military. He was married a few times in his life. He married Elizabeth Ann Kealil'aukai AKA Kealilaukai Robins Sackwitz (1935-2004) and they had three children. He also married Tsulan Grace Mellisa Smith Farden (1923-2008), and Irma Irene Leilani Rosehill (1918-1992).
