He lived in Akron, Summit, Ohio and enlisted on November 17, 1941 in Cleveland Ohio. The next year, he married Gertrude Viola Kashka (1919-1998) on January 27, 1942 in Albuquerque, Bernalillo Co., NM. The couple lived in Miami, Dade Co., FL, USA had children together including a son who did not survive Michael Lloyd Schoonover (1948-1948). The couple later divorced around 1965. Lloyd then married again in September of 1965 in Dade County Florida.

It was an effort to conserve fuel needed to produce electric power. This was a war effort and proved unpopular so in most areas of the United States, Daylight Saving Time ended after World War I. It returned during World War II.

In 1928, he was only 10 years old when aviatrix Amelia Earhart, age 31, became the first woman to fly solo across North America and back in August. In June, she had been part of a 3 man crew that flew the Atlantic Ocean but since she had no instrument training, she couldn't fly the plane - she kept the flight log. The North American flight became one of her many "firsts" as a female pilot.
