Lockhart Amerman was born to William Amerman (1861 - 1928) and Carrie Lockhart (1875 - 1952). Lockhart married Louise Swain Landreth (1913 - 1981) on March 29,1940 in Bristol, Pennsylvania, and they had four children, two daughters and two sons. One son was Symington Phillips Landreth Amerman (1945 - 2017).

Born in New York City, Lockhart's ministry took him to Pennsylvania, where he lived as a adult. He died in Bristol, Pennsylvania.

He attended Princeton Theological Seminary, graduating in 1935. Lockhart also attended Haverford College in Haverford Pennsylvania, wher he was on the Cricket Team, the Play Committee, the Glee Club, English club, the Classical Club, Founders' Club, and the Haverfordian Board.

He was a Presbyterian minister.

He was Assistant Pastor of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City. Besides serving as a minister, he published young adult mystery novels such as Guns in the Heather; Cape Cod Casket in 1964 and The Sly One in 1966. One of his stories - Guns in the Heather - was released on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color, released in 1969. The episode starred Kurt Russell.
