Lolita Helen (Wegmann) Parkhurst of Pullman, Allegan County, MI was born on January 22, 1926 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois United States to Peter Kitcheos and Julia (Wegmann) Kitcheos. She had siblings Carlyn (Wegmann) Gianopolous, Gus Kitcheos, and Cornell "Kit" Kitcheos. She married Earl Parkhurst and they later divorced. She had children James E Parkhurst, John Parkhurst, Debbie Parkhurst, Sherri Parkhurst, Kathy (Parkhurst) Leader, and David Parkhurst. Lolita Parkhurst died at age 84 years old on August 26, 2010, and was buried on August 26, 2010 in Pullman, MI.

In 1926, in the year that Lolita Parkhurst was born, on October 31st, Harry Houdini died in Michigan. Houdini was the most famed magician of his time and perhaps of all time, especially for his acts involving escapes - from handcuffs, straitjackets, chains, ropes slung from skyscrapers, and more. He was president of the Society of American Magicians and stringently upheld professional ethics. He died of complications from a ruptured appendix. Although he had received a blow to the area a couple of days previously, the connection between the blow and his appendicitis is disputed.

He ran against Republican Governor Alf Landon (Kansas), defeating Landon in the popular vote by 60.8% to 36.5%. Vermont and Maine were the only two states in which Landon won. John Nance Garner IV became the Vice-President in this election.
