Survived by her life long husband Vernon Wesley Gaulden, sister Florence Fern Sheets, nieces Lorena Sheets-Nerney (Marshall), Maureen Sheets-McCoy (Greg), Elana Sheets-Tedrick (Arthur), nephews Gary Sheets, Paul Sheets (Dorrie) and seven great nieces and nephews; Nicholas, Spencer, Douglas, Ryan, Kristen, Joey and Tyler. Preceded in death by her brothers George Mosier, Leonard Mosier, Robert Mosier and baby sister Fern Mosier, as well as her brother-in-law Joseph Sheets.

In 1916, in the year that Lorena B Gaulden was born, the Battle of Verdun was fought from February through December. It was the largest and longest battle of World War I, lasting 303 days. The original estimates were 714,231 casualties - 377,231 French and 337,000 German, an average of 70,000 casualties a month. Current estimates are even larger. The Battle of the Somme was also fought from July through September of the same year. Original estimates were 485,000 British and French casualties and 630,000 German casualties.

In 1926, when she was just 10 years old, on November 15th, NBC was founded. It was the U.S.'s first major broadcast network. Ownership of the network was split between RCA (a majority partner at 50%), its founding corporate parent General Electric (which owned 30%), and Westinghouse (which owned the remaining 20%).

In 1937, Lorena was 21 years old when on May 28th, the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge opened to cars. Taking 5 years to build, the 4,200-foot-long suspension bridge was an engineering marvel of its time - 11 men died during construction. The "international orange" color was chosen because it resisted rust and fading. To the present, it is the symbol of the City that is known throughout the world.

In 1977, when she was 61 years old, on January 21st, President Carter pardoned "draft dodgers" - men who avoided the draft during the Vietnam War. He fulfilled a campaign promise with the pardon. But it only applied to civilian evaders - the estimated 500,000 to 1 million active-duty personnel who went AWOL were not included.

In 1998, at the age of 82 years old, Lorena was alive when on December 19th, the movie Titanic - based on the 1912 sinking of the ship and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet - was released. Winning 11 Oscars, it was the first film to gross over a billion dollars and eventually grossed over $2 billion.
