    Lorna was the much loved youngest daughter of Edward George Cooper and Annie-Louise "Lou" Cooper (nee Andrews). She is the younger sister of Annette Veronica Alford (nee Cooper). Lorna married Brian Gordon Alford on 9 April 1966. Lorna was the much loved and loving mother of Rachelle Ann O'Callaghan (formerly Mottershead, nee Alford), Cameron Gordon Alford and Simon Brett Alford. She was the much loved and loving grandmother ("Granny") of Callum (2002, to Rachelle), Hope (1999, to Cameron), Paige and Ryan (2001, to Cameron), James (1995, to Simon) and Luke (1999, to Simon). Lorna is sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In 1942, in the year that Lorna Joan Alford was born, from January 7th through April 9th, the Battle of Bataan was fought in the Philippines. At the end of the battle, the U.S. and Filipino forces surrendered and a three-year occupation of the Philippines by Japan began. Between 60,000 and 80,000 American and Filipino soldiers surrendered and were marched around 60 to 69 miles - most were beaten, abused, or killed. Named the Bataan Death March, it was later declared to be a war crime.

In 1957, Lorna was just 15 years old when on September 24th, the "Little Rock Nine" (nine African-American students) entered Little Rock High School. Arkansas Gov. Orval Faubus had previously prevented the students from entering the school at the beginning of the term with the Arkansas National Guard - they blocked the door. President Eisenhower ordered federal troops - the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army - to guard the students and allow them entry.
