  • Introduction

Lorraine Rose Fischer Dennison Witter Lorraine Rose Witter, age 93, of South Bend, passed away with her family by her side at the Golden Living Center Fountain View in Mishawaka on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. She was born on June 29, 1922 in Chicago, IL to the late Leo and Rose Pisani Fischer. On December 2, 1943, she married the love of her life, Robert Dennison, in Seattle, Washington, when he came home with the Navy from defending our country in WW II. Robert preceded Lorraine in death (April 2, 1962). Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Judy (Dennison) Knabenshue (1969); brother, Leonard Fischer; and her twin sister, LaVerne Lehman of Osceola; her brother-in-law, Roy "Gene" Lehman; and son-in-law, David Myers. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Karen (Larry) Kajzer and Fay Myers, both of South Bend; niece, Shirley Schalk of Roseland; two grandsons, Brian Kajzer of South Bend and Ryan (Bridget) Kajzer of Indianapolis; two grand-daughters, Judi Lykowski, and Julie (Jeff) Hirsch, all of South Bend; four great-grandchildren, Caleb Hirsch, Fritzie Kajzer, Ella Hirsch and Brycen Hirsch; great-nieces, Holly (Lehman) Mwachande (Makaika), and Laurie Lehman; and great-great-nephew, Limbani Lehman, all of Osceola. Lorraine is also survived by her sister-in-law, Francesca Fischer. At the age of 12 Lorraine moved to South Bend and was a parishioner of St. Matthew Cathedral. She attended Central High School. Prior to marriage Lorraine worked at Studebaker, Wilson Brothers Shirt Company and Ball Band. Family was everything to Lorraine. She was very proud to be a grandmother and great-grandmother. There was never a dull moment with "granny" around, she was known as a character, a jokester and could sure make people laugh. No matter if she was busy, she always made time for people. For most of her life Lorraine was a homemaker. She enjoyed shopping, spending time with her family, and cooking for family and friends. You never left Lorraine's house hungry; her kitchen was always open no matter what time you stopped by. In her younger years she enjoyed gardening and was happy to share her harvest with family and neighbors. Lorraine also had a love of growing beautiful colorful flowers in her garden every spring and amazingly those flowers still remain. She will be sorely missed, not just for her love of feeding others, but also for her kind heart, always greeting others with a smile and making people laugh. She loved to communicate whether by letter, in person or talking on the phone for hours on end. Friends may call from 11-1 pm Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Bubb Funeral Chapel in Mishawaka. A Catholic funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Bubb Funeral Chapel, and interment will follow at the South Union Cemetery in Nappanee. Lorraine's family would like to thank the Golden Living Center Fountain-view nursing staff that gave the best care possible to Lorraine for years at the nursing facility and treated her like she was their own family member.
