Lorraine Thais (Shaw) Dadswell was born on November 10, 1938 to Thomas Stewart Shaw and Elizabeth Evelyn (Smith) Shaw, and had a sister Gayle Shaw. She married Norman Stanley Dadswell, and they were married until death separated them. She had a child John Dadswell. Lorraine Dadswell died at age 85 years old on May 18, 2024, and was buried at Geelong Western Cemetery, 95 Minerva Rd, in Herne Hill, Greater Geelong City County, VIC Australia.

    The Herald Sun. Melbourne. May 2024. DADSWELL, Lorraine Thais. Late of Geelong Grove. Passed away peacefully at St. John of God, after a short illness. Loving daughter of Thomas and Evelyn Shaw ( both dec.) Loved wife of Norman ( dec.), special mum of John, Bronwyn and John, grandmother of Lachlan and Hamish. Much loved sister of Gayle, aunt of Stewart and Scott. Friend of Michelle. At her happiest helping others, and making sure family and friends never went hungry.

In 1938, in the year that Lorraine Thais (Shaw) Dadswell was born, on June 25th (a Saturday) the Fair Labor Standards Act was signed into law by President Roosevelt (along with 120 other bills). The Act banned oppressive child labor, set the minimum hourly wage at 25 cents, and established the maximum workweek at 44 hours. It faced a lot of opposition and in fighting for it, Roosevelt said "Do not let any calamity-howling executive with an income of $1,000 a day, ...tell you...that a wage of $11 a week is going to have a disastrous effect on all American industry."

In 1941, by the time she was only 3 years old, on June 25th, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 8802, prohibiting racial discrimination in the defense industry. EO 8802 was the first federal action to prohibit employment discrimination - without prejudice as to "race, creed, color, or national origin" - in the U.S. Civil Rights groups had planned a march on Washington D.C. to protest for equal rights but with the signing of the Order, they canceled the March.
