He was my Grandpa Chales "Mike" Carlin's 1st cousin, and I can remember my grandmother taking me there when I was about 6yrs old and Mr. Louis would come out of the kitchen, pat me on the head and ask my Grandmother and I if we were hungry. My grandmother always got the fried shrimp, but I was always fighting with myself over gwtting the fried oysters or the fried shrimp, lol. He would bring me out a plate that was full and shrimp or oysters would be falling off the plate the mound was so big.
He was a hard worker, and very well liked. We never went there when it wasn't packed. It was located directly across from the Joe Patti's Seafood entrance. My Grandpa Mike (retired from City of Pensacola Fire Department and Native of Pensacola until he passed in November 1997 from Cancer) told me the story on how Mr. Louis started out. It's a story that will make you smile.
I miss those days, I miss going to family owned businesses in downtown Pensacola. I miss my Grandpa Mike beyond belief even to this day. I miss Mr. Louis and all of his family, which all kept Averill's seafood restaurant a well known name in and around Pensacola for many years. But I have some very good and vivid memories that I will never forget.
