Did you know?
In 1905, in the year that Louis Dileo was born, the first movie theater opened in the United States in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was the first theater to show nothing but movies - silent films. Two men, John P. Harris and his brother-in-law Harry Davis, opened the Nickelodeon on Smithfield Street - charging 5 cents for admission. The first day, 450 people watched movies at the new theater - on the second day, more than 1500 people stood in line to get in.

In 1923, when he was 18 years old, the A.C. Nielsen Company was founded in Chicago. It provided an audience measurement system that could provide radio station owners with information on their listeners and the popularity of their shows. Later, the Nielsen company became the basis for the fate of television programs.

The 1920s Changed Our Daily Lives - and Not How You Might Think
Women finally had the vote, more people began living in cities rather than on farms, alcohol was illegal (leading to lots of illegal drinking and sin taxes), the beginning of jazz, hems got short and women showed some skin . . . many thought it was the beginning of immorality. This was the roaring 1920’s - the decade that influenced all decades that followed.
