He grew up in Saint Paul, Howard, Nebraska, USA with siblings including Edward L Puncochar (1913-2011) and Evelyn B Puncochar (1918-1999). At the time of his draft registration on June 30, 1942 in Oregon, USA he was 19 years old and resided in Hillsboro, Washington, Oregon. Louis was employed by Union Pacific R R Co. Louis' draft status changed when he enlisted in the military on October 30, 1942, in Portland, Oregon. He joined the United States Army and held the rank of Private and served in the Army. On August 17, 1943 he married Mildred J Puncochar and they were married for three years before divorcing on October 19, 1946. The couple had 7 children together including Lou Ann Puncochar (1944-1999), Patricia Louise Puncochar (1949-), and Linda Puncochar (1951-2006). Louise then re married on February 14, 1980 in Solano, California, USA to Irene S Day (1920–). The couple later divorced on February 3, 1983.
