    Wednesday, May 23, 2001 By DALLAS -- Louis R. McKernan, 73, Dallas, formerly of Topeka, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001. Mr. McKernan had a career in the auto industry that spanned 45 years. He was the president of Red Bird Ford for 18 years before his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was born July 26, 1927, in Troy, to Spencer and Adeline Beryl Dishon McKernan. Mr. McKernan was one of the original Rough Riders for N.A.D.A. He also served as the National Chairman for the Lincoln Mercury Dealers Council, as well as president of the Topeka Chamber of Commerce. Mr. McKernan was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Debbie Battey; and a granddaughter, Amber Dawn McKernan. Survivors include a son, Hugh McKernan, Duncanville, Texas; step daughters Terry Penn and Virginia Perrin, both of DeSoto, Texas; sisters Mary O'Connor, Dallas, and Pat Golish, California; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Jaynes Memorial Chapel, Duncanville. Burial with military honors will be in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
