    Louis Sernovitz was born on October 23, 1923 in New York City, New York, USA to mother Rebecca Sernovitz. He had a younger sister, Phyliss Sernovitz. Louis registered for the draft on June 30, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At the time, he was 18 years old and was living with his mother. He was drafted into the military on April 7, 1943, and enlisted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a Private in the Selectees (Enlisted Men) component. In June 1945, Louis was admitted to a hospital due to injuries sustained while in service. He was diagnosed with burns to his eyes caused by exposure to chemicals, and conjunctivitis, not elsewhere classified. He was discharged from the hospital in June 1945 and was discharged from the military with the rank of Enlisted Man (includes Aviation Cadet or Student), with a length of service between 2-3 years. Louis was married to Anne Burgos (1929-2015) and the couple had four children together including a son named William Sernovitz (1962-1997).
