Lovdie Drayton of Northcote Australia was born in 1857 to Edward Ladner and Sally Bramble Ladner. They had siblings Loveday Ladner, William James Ladner, Victor John Ladner, Sally Dalton, Edward Ladner, Mary Jane Fabling, John Henry Ladner, and William James Ladner. Lovdie Drayton died at age 64 years old in 1921 in Northcote.

In 1857, in the year that Lovdie Drayton was born, on March 6th, the US Supreme Court ruled that Blacks were not citizens and that slaves couldn't sue for freedom. The case was known as Dred Scott v. Sandford. It further divided the country and added to the forces that created the Civil War. It wasn't overturned until the 14th Amendment became law in 1868.

In 1869, when this person was only 12 years old, on August 31st, Irish scientist Mary Ward, age 42, was hit and killed by a car powered by a steam engine. The car was built by her cousins. She was the world's first known casualty of a car accident.
