In 1929, in the year that Luis A Fandino was born, the St. Valentine's Day Massacre happened on February 14th. In Chicago, seven men from the North Side Irish gang were gunned down by Al Capone's South Side Italian gang at the garage at 2122 North Clark Street. Al Capone was making a successful move to take over Chicago's organized crime. But the St. Valentine's Day massacre also resulted in a public outcry against all gangsters.

In 1931, Luis was only 2 years old when in March, “The Star Spangled Banner” officially became the national anthem by congressional resolution. Other songs had previously been used - among them, "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", "God Bless America", and "America the Beautiful". There was fierce debate about making "The Star Spangled Banner" the national anthem - Southerners and veterans organizations supported it, pacifists and educators opposed it.

Highlights of just a few of the many successes of sharing memories within the AncientFaces Community. From reuniting Lost & Found or 'orphan' photos with their families, seeing faces of relatives for the first time, to the many connections made with family & friends, and the profound discoveries about our loved ones and ancestors. First Responders: Policemen & Policewomen
From traffic control to crowd control, police men and women have always been on the front lines protecting their communities. These photos, dating from the 1800's through the early 1900's, are of those who have sworn to serve and protect. In some ways, a lot has changed but the duties of these men and women have remained the same. Wouldn't it be amazing if New York City's traffic today were like the 1911 photo below?
