Make" Barker was born 1855 in Raft Swamp, Robeson County, NC to Riley Barker and Lucy Humphrey. He farmed some, served as a Justice of the Peace and even went down the road alittle and preached at a 'colored' church who had no pastor. He and his first wife, Sarah Winifred Carlye had 8 children: Sophia, Sadie, Marvie, Omah, Mary Swannie, Birre and Austin.
He died in 1940 and is buried in the Great Marsh Cemetery next to that church in St. Paul, NC
