She married Lyda Faye Statzer, and had children Arthur Statzer, Carl Statzer, Dorothy Statzer, Charlene Statzer, Barbara Statzer, Nancy Statzer, and Thomas Statzer. Malissa Clay died at age 99 years old on December 22, 2012 in Hazard, Perry County, and was buried at Brewer Cemetery in Leslie County.
