Memories of Manolo Agullo.
Manolo was the son of an aide to the American Ambassador to Cuba. He studied at Pro Arte in Havanna, Cuba alongside one of the greatest ballerinas of the time, Alicia Alonso. He was commissioned to study Afro-Cuban dancing by the Cuban government. He later joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and became a soloist. WWII cut short his career as a professional dancer. He migrated to the U.S., and became a dancer with the New York City Opera. Later, he moved to Memphis TN and helped found the Memphis City Ballet. He eventually accepted and invitation from Jeannette Rockefeller to start a company at the Arkansas Arts Center, where he taught for over 25 years. He was beloved by everybody who knew him.
