In 1937, he was 27 years old when on May 6th, the German zeppelin the Hindenburg caught fire and blew up. The Hindenburg was a passenger ship traveling to Frankfurt Germany. The reasons for the explosion are still disputed.

In 1943, by the time he was 33 years old, on March 31st, the Broadway musical Oklahoma! opened. The musical ran for 2,212 performances originally and was made into a movie in 1954.

In 1954, when he was 44 years old, from April 22 through June 17th, the Army v. McCarthy hearings were held. The Army allegations were found to be true. The U.S. Senate later censured McCarthy.

In 1962, he was 52 years old when lasting from October 16th - 28th, the Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest that the United States and the Soviet Union came to nuclear war.
