Marco Troiano was white of Italian heritage. He was born on September 11, 1924 to parents Donato Troiano and Marcella Ficarelli. His mother Marcella was born on January 21, 1904 in New York City and grew up in Manhattan. She married Donato on November 12, 1922 in Manhattan and resided in the Bronx. She passed away on January 23, 1997 in Port Saint Lucie, Saint Lucie, Florida, USA. His father Donato was born on September 11, 1900 (Marco and Donato share a birthday) in Bari, Bari, Puglia, Italy. He immigrated to the US arriving in New York on February 10, 1911. That same year, he became a naturalized citizen of New York. He resided in Manhattan and the Bronx and passed away there on July 29, 1961.

Marco was born, raised, and lived most of his life in New York City and also resided in City Island, NY. He was a resident of Hope, NJ for 28 years and passed away in New Jersey.

Marco was one of five children in his family with siblings Isabella Lena Troiano (1923-2005), Giovanni "John" Philip Troiano (1925-), Carmela Troiano (1928-2019), and Nicholas John Troiano (1930-1995). At the time of his enlistment, he had completed three years of high school.
