Margaret Louisa (Hildibrand) Murphy of Willaura, Ararat Rural City County, VIC Australia was born in August 1882 in Queenscliff to Louisa Marie Steinmann Hildebrand and Conrad Hildebrand. She had siblings Blanche Evelyn Hildebrand, Pauline Augusta Hildebrand, Gertrude Maud Hildebrand, John Hermann Hildebrand, Alice Hildebrand, Florence Wilhelmina Hildebrand, Ernest Charles Hildebrand, Conrad Alfred Hildebrand, and Oswald Arthur Stienmann Hildebrand. Margaret Murphy died at age 89 years old in 1971 in Willaura.

In 1882, in the year that Margaret Louisa Hildibrand was born, on March 22nd, the Edmunds Act - passed by Congress - made polygamy a felony. The Act also banned "bigamous" relationships and "unlawful cohabitation", making it illegal for polygamists and those who simply lived together without marrying to vote, be on a jury, or hold a public office.

In 1921, she was 39 years old when on November 11th, the first burial was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The body of an unknown soldier - selected by Army Sgt. Edward F. Younger who was highly decorated for valor and received the Distinguished Service Cross in "The Great War" - was brought back from France (World War 1) and placed in the newly completed tomb. President Warren G. Harding officiated at the interment ceremonies.
