She worked at Karen Realty in Richmond Hill and Ozone Park until her husband, Sal, opened his own real estate in Richmond Hill - Salas Realty, which became a family business employing Sal, Angie, Josie and Joe.

Angie enjoyed spending time with family and friends. After moving to Florida for some time, she returned to New York to live with her daughter, Melody and help with the kids while Melody went to Court Reporting School and then secured an administrative position at a prestigious law firm. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren with whom she enjoyed extremely close relationships. She showed her love with her cooking and teaching them to cook (including the boys). She loved vacationing with her friends Julie and lifetime childhood friend, Celia. She was so beloved by her children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She adored the cats and dogs, even the chickens and fed all creatures residing on the property. Maria never remarried because she considered herself the only wife of Sal since their marriage in the Catholic Church was never annulled and the church does not recognize civil divorce. Since the marriage was never annulled and she never remarried, she was still in good standing within the Catholic Church and was able to receive communion regularly, even at home during her illness, she was able to receive the anointing of the sick and final rights.
