"Mama Mina"
That's what I called her. Usually, in Latino families, you address your grandparents and other family members respectfully by their relation to you and their, at times, first name. Grandmother is Abuela, Grandfather is Abuelo, Aunt/Uncle is Tia/Tio, etc .. From the first day I met her I knew she was my grandmother and I LOVED and was drawn to this woman all the years I was blessed to have her in my life. Funny thing was, I never called her Abuela Maria, it was either Abuela Mina or my favorite, Mama Mina!! What I found even more amazing about her was that she NEVER minded it. The term of endearment, "Mama Mina" was used by nearly everyone outside the family as well.
She was my haven, my biggest supporter, one of my heartstrings, the model of unconditional love. Thinking about her and missing...
