Introduction

Marie A. Vatter was my father's mother. She was called by other names, which makes it confusing. I believe her full name was Marie Anna Vietmeier (maiden name). Most people called her Jenny, but I have no idea why. I think some people had called her Mary Ann. My grandmother had 4 boys--Robert, Charles (my father), Frank Jr., and David. The family started out in Pittsburgh, but David and my grandparents moved to Virginia, then Miami, FL. David still lives in Florida, but moved to the Tallahassee area a few years ago. Robert has lived in Tacoma, WA, for many years. Frank Jr. lives in Bethel Park, PA, and my father (Charles) lives in Blairsville, PA. My grandmother was a homemaker all her life. I didn't have much connection with her after my parents divorced, but I did see her several times as an adult after my grandfather died. She had a reputation for being spotlessly clean, and she loved pretty things. She had a collection of Hummels that she treasured. From what I have been told, she did not have an easy life, but my knowledge of her is limited. She suffered a stroke toward the end of her life and was living in a nursing home in Homestead, FL when Hurricane Andrew hit and she had to be moved to Ft. Lauderdale, where she died shortly afterward.
