Marshall A Reuman 1913 - 1999

Marshall A Reuman of New Hartford, Oneida County, NY was born on September 7, 1913 to Reuben Reuman and Wilhemina (Minnie) Reuman. He had siblings Charlotte Reuman Elmore and Marjorie Reuman Rettke. He married Mary Elizabeth Stewart Reuman, and had children Sue Ann Reuman Lerner, Marsha Jane Reuman Crissman, and Wendy Dale Reuman Cridlebaugh. Marshall Reuman died at age 86 years old on September 16, 1999.

In 1913, in the year that Marshall A Reuman was born, the 17th Amendment, establishing the direct election of U.S. Senators, was adopted. Previously, Senators were elected by state legislatures. As early as 1826, a call to elect senators through popular vote was championed and previous to the 17th amendment, two states had already changed their process. Governors are still able to appoint senators to vacant seats until an election can be held.
