[Original obituary printed in New Orleans Times-Picayune on June 10 and June 11, 1999] Birth: Jul. 24, 1926, New Orleansm Orleans Parish, Louisiana Death: Jun. 8, 1999, Chalmette, St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana MARY ANN T. CHAMBERS [later MARY ANN T. CHAMBERS JOHNSTON and later MARY ANN T. CHAMBERS (JOHNSTON) SIMON] was born July 24, 1926 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana to WILLIAM THOMAS CHAMBERS (born May 1873; died at age 68 on Jan. 31, 1942) and LENA LANDRY TYNES CHAMBERS (died age 94 on July 31, 1985). MARY ANN had four step-siblings, one from her father's prior marriage to Mary H. Vogel Chambers, Mrs. Peter Ruben Anderson (aka Alice R. Chambers Anderson), and three from her mother's prior marriage: 1) HELEN TYNES CROZIER (died Oct. 18, 2009), 2) DORIS TYNES BLOUNT (died June 11, 1984), and 3) BYRON LEROY TYNES, Jr. MARY ANN graduated around 1943 from Sophie B. Wright High School in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was later a homemaker and Administrative Assistant. She married George McCartney Johnston Jr. [later George McCartney Johnston II) and they had a son, CHRISTOPHER McCARTNEY JOHNSTON, but they got divorced in Dec. 1949 (in New Orleans Times-Picayune of Dec. 17, 1949, page 33). [I knew CHRIS for many years both in Salt Lake City, Utah, and then when he moved back to New Orleans, but I can find almost no record of him online.] Later, MARY ANN married DARRYL M. SIMON Sr. and had a daughter with him they named REBECCA "BECKY" SIMON (later REBECCA "BECKY" SIMON BRUNIES). MARY ANN obtained a legal separation in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, from DARRYL in Dec. 1969, and then filed for divorce in July 1970 -- also in Jefferson Parish. [I don't know if and when their divorce became final.] MARY ANN CHAMBERS SIMON died of congestive heart failure at her home on June 8, 1999 in Chalmette, St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. She was 72. Her death notice and then obituary appeared in the New Orleans newspaper the Times-Picayune 2 and 3 days later on June 10 and June 11, 1999 -- apparently the same day she was buried. [I have been unable to find MARY ANN's actual Times-Picayune death notice and obituary, but only references to them online.] Family links: Parents: William Thomas Chambers (1873 - 1942) Lena M Landry Tynes Chambers (1890 - 1985) Spouse: George McCartney (Mac) Johnston (1925 - 1997) Darryl M Simon Sr Children: Christopher McCartney Johnston Jr.(1946 - 1994) Rebecca "Becky" Simon Brunies Siblings: Alice R. Although he had received a blow to the area a couple of days previously, the connection between the blow and his appendicitis is disputed.
