Mary Goss was born in 1920 in Essendon, Moonee Valley City County, VIC Australia to Frances (McFarlane) Goss and John Goss, and had siblings Ursula Mary Goss, Rev. Gerald Patrick Goss, Richard Goss, Carmel Goss, Ellen "Nellie" (Goss) Ryan, Kathleen Goss, Nancy (Goss) O'Laughlin, Winifred (Goss) Anderson, Thomas Goss, Sheila Goss ( Sister M. Cecilia ), Clare Goss, Joan Goss, William Maurice Goss, Leslie Goss, and John Francis Goss. Mary Goss died at age 90 years old on August 30, 2011 in Brisbane, QLD, and was buried at Nudgee Cemetery in Brisbane, Queensland.

Sister Mary Goss entered our Congregation in February 1939 and after 72 years as a Sister of Charity, Mary died, aged 91, in Brisbane on 30th August 2011. Mary's parents, John and Fanny Goss, had fifteen children, and when Mary was born she already had three brothers and three sisters. The family lived in Essendon so most of the children were pupils in the parish schools at Essendon or Moonee Ponds. Mary began her Novitiate at 'Bethania' at Potts Point on 2nd February, 1939, and on completion of her training, made her first profession of Vows in August, 1941. Mary had taken Declan as her religious name, so for many years she was known as Sister Mary Declan. Later, when able to to resume her baptismal name, she did so and became sister Mary. After gaining her Teachers Registration, Mary was sent to Katoomba, and for the next twenty-five years taught in parish schools in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.
