She had siblings John Patrick "Paddy" Harrington, Thomas Francis Harrington, and Bernard "Kell" Joseph Harrington. Mary Quinlivan married Edward George Quinlivan in 1942, and died at age 93 years old on April 4, 2009 in Melbourne.

In 1915, in the year that Mary Harrington Quinlivan was born, the Superior Court in Fulton County Georgia accepted the charter for the establishment of the new Ku Klux Klan, succeeding the Klan that flourished in the South in the late 1800's. This iteration of the Klan adopted white clothing and used many of the code words from the first Klan, adding cross burnings and mass marches in an attempt to intimidate others.

In 1923, Mary was only 8 years old when on November 8th and 9th, Adolf Hitler and his followers (the early Nazi party) staged the "Beer Hall Putsch" in Munich in an attempt to take over Bavaria (a state in Germany). They failed. Hitler was charged with treason and convicted, receiving a sentence of 5 years. He served under 1 year in jail.
