Mary Isabella (Weibye) Currie 1877 - 1971

Mary Isabella (Weibye) Currie was born in 1877 to Lars William Weibye and Annie (Sumner) Weibye Hartley, and had a brother Lewis Sumner Weibye. She was in a relationship with John Currie, and had children Hector McDonald Currie and Alan Eustace Currie. Mary Currie died at age 93 years old in July 1971.

Weir, John, second son of John and Janet Currie, of "Gateside," Cowie's Creek, to Mary Isabella, second daughter of the late William Weibye, Euroa, and Mrs. Hartley, of W.A. ( Present address , "Wabonga," Hurstbridge. )

In 1877, in the year that Mary Isabella (Weibye) Currie was born, on July 14th, strikes and resulting riots began at the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Railroad. A sympathy strike and rioting began in Pittsburgh and a worker's rebellion began in St. Louis, then spread to other cities. 100 people were killed before the strikes ended when President Rutherford B. Hayes sent federal troops to each of the cities involved.

In 1919, she was 42 years old when on January 6th, President Theodore Roosevelt died. Having gone to bed the previous night after being treated for breathing problems, the ex-President died in his sleep from a clot that had traveled to his lungs. He was 60. After a simple service, Roosevelt was buried on a hillside overlooking Oyster Bay.
