Purling - Maria T. "Mary" Lupoli, 86, of Purling, passed away Saturday, Jan 4, 2014, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, surrounded by her loving family. Born March 11, 1927, in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Rose (Manfrede) Greco. Mary married Peter M. Lupoli on May 17, 1947, and together they raised five children. They lived in Ozone Park, N.Y., for many years before moving to Purling in 1975. She was the office manager of her family business, Father & Sons Auto Sales and Service of Leeds. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Cairo and formerly of St. Mary Gate of Heaven Catholic Church of Ozone Park, and she was active in both churches through the years. She served as president of St. Mary Gate of Heaven Altar Rosary Society. She was an active, dedicated member of Greene County Women's League Cancer Patient Aide Society for more than 30 years, and especially looked forward to their annual fundraiser luncheon, held in Hunter, N.Y., every August. Her greatest joy was her family and her numerous friends. She enjoyed hosting many gatherings at her home and was lovingly known by both family and friends as "The General." Mary perfected the craft of knitting and crocheting and crafted hundreds of beautiful sweater sets for babies of family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Peter M. Lupoli Sr., on Dec. 4, 1982; her sister and brother-in-law, Fannie "PeeWee" and Anthony Lupoli; her brother, Joseph Greco; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carmella and Luciano Zaccarelli; and her nephew, Patrick Greco. Survivors include her five children, Peter M. Lupoli Jr. of Leeds, Michael (Mary) Lupoli of Cairo, Maria (Mike) Mario of Catskill, Diane (Thomas) Valenti of Ticonderoga and James (Johanna) Lupoli of Slingerlands; Nancy Lupoli of Cairo; her brother-in-law, Joseph "Sonny" Lupoli of Leeds, her sister-in-law, Fay Greco of Howard Beach; her 11 grandchildren, Stacey (David) Infantino, Peter (Carrie) Lupoli III, Nicholas (Kate) Lupoli, Stephanie Lupoli, Melanie (Jeff) Yungandreas, Michael Lupoli Jr., Kimberly (Eric) Wiggins, Kristi (James) Robbiani, Vanessa Valenti, Thomas Valenti Jr. and Olivia Lupoli; her seven great-grandchildren, Michael and Hannah Infantino, Grace and Ellie Lupoli and Jon, Joshua and Kara Wiggins, and another great-grandson due in January; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends, including her dear friend of many years, Flo Pagliuca. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Traver and McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Cairo. The Rev. Michael Flannery, pastor, will officiate.
