    She was born in Missouri to Henry Hope Barker (d. 1924) and Lula Elizabeth Proctor Barker (d.1948). Her younger brother, James Charles Barker was born in 1919, and died in 1991. She met John M. Virden (his birth name was John the Baptist) in high school. They were married on June 21st, 1931 and ended with his death on December 23rd, 1969.

    Mimi was born in Missouri, but moved to Oklahoma when she was young. After a few years of her marriage to my grandfather, he joined the Army Air Corp. She moved to Europe, along with their 4 children, when "Johnny" was appointed to work with S.H.A.P.E. While there, the family lived in Wiesbaden, Germany and Paris, France.

    Mimi graduated high school in Oklahoma. It's unfortunate, but her family didn't have the means to send her to college; however, she was extremely smart.

    She was both. Mimi enjoyed reading the Bible, but after moving to Bowie, MD in 1970, I don't recall her attending church.

    She wasn't a veteran herself, but her husband fought with the China-Burma-India forces during WWII. She raised their four children while "Johnny" was overseas, and later, moved their family to Europe.
  • Professional Career

    As a military wife, her job was raising her family and supporting her husband were her top priorities.
