He had siblings Alice Maud (Galbraith) Kemp, Edith Isabella Galbraith, Andrew Love Galbraith, Jessie Love Galbraith, William Galbraith, John Bruce Galbraith, Harry Staveley Galbraith, and Frederick Ross Galbraith. He married Amy (Ladson) Galbraith in 1905, and died at age 76 years old on November 5, 1945 in Tyers, Latrobe City County. Matthew Galbraith was buried at Traralgon Cemetery - Gippsland Memorial Park Cemetery Dr, in Traralgon.

    The Ovens and Murray Advertiser ( Beechworth ) Vic. 14th November 1945. MR. MATTHEW GALBRAITH. The death occurred on Monday, 5th November, at "Dunedin," Tyers, of a member of a former Beechworth family, Mr. Matthew Galbraith. He was born at Beechworth on June 28th, 1869. In 1877 he went with his mother and brothers to Gippsland and proceeded from Traralgon to Tyers, where his father, grandfather and elder brother built a home. They had proceeded by dray from Beechworth, travelling in it by day and sleeping under it at night. They had cleared land at Tyers and established a farm and also set up a bakery at Traralgon, 12 miles away. After leaving school, the late Mr. Galbraith went to the farm and displayed a great interest in pasture improvement and installed the first milking machines in the district. In 1905 Mr. Galbraith married Miss Amy Ladson, sister of Mr. Arthur Ladson and Miss E. Ladson of Beechworth. Mrs. Galbraith and three children - Jean, Lance ( Osborne's Flat ), and Angus remain to mourn a loving husband and father. The eldest son Lawrence Galbraith, B.C.E., died whilst mountaineering eight years ago.
