    Maurice Alvin Francis was born to Emery James Francis (1899 - 1968) and Neva Orene Geist (1897 - 1984). He had siblings Emery C., Lroene M., Marjorie Ellen, LeRoy, Dorothy Jean, Elmer Lee, and Betty Joann, Carmen Dean, Phyllis M., Rex W., and Bertha Francis. Maurice Francis married Jean Sharwin (1926 - 2013) on January 3, 1945, and they had son Stephen Paul Francis (1947 - 1947) plus five living children: four sons and a daughter. A veteran of World War II, Maurice enlisted in the United States Army on November 19, 1942, and was discharged on February 25, 1946. Born and raised as a young child in Miltonvale, Kansas, Maurice moved to Staff Kansas when he was 10 years old. He lived there until he was in his early 20s, when he entered the military. Maurice returned to Kansas after he left the military. He was a lifelong resident of Kansas, as were his parents.
