He had siblings Olga Emilie Caroline Lessing, Elsie Gerta Lessing, Ewald Albert Lessing, Edith Rita Lessing, Mary Matilda Lessing, Marjorie Catherine Lessing, Arthur Richard Lessing, and Hans Walter Lessing. Max Lessing married Cecilia Smyth in 1920, and died at age 48 years old in 1945.
