Max Lionel Morris of Rosebud, Shire of Mornington Peninsula County, VIC Australia was born in 1911 in Camperdown, Corangamite Shire County to Jessie Isabel (Potts) Morris and Walter Graham Morris. He had siblings Alan Dixon Morris, Roy Douglas Morris, Stanley Harold Morris, and Stewart Graham Morris. Max Morris married Violet Wetton in 1939, and died at age 76 years old on July 7, 1988 in Rosebud, Shire of Mornington Peninsula County.

In 1911, in the year that Max Lionel Morris was born, the first Indianapolis 500 was run in May. Ray Harroun was the winner - he was an engineer and had retired from racing but he came back for this race. After the race, he retired for good. The purse was $27,550 - the largest offered up to that time - and Harroun received $10,000 for first place. His average time was 74.602 mph.

In 1940, Max was 29 years old when on November 5th, President Franklin Roosevelt was elected to a third term, defeating Wendell Willkie of Indiana (a corporate lawyer). Roosevelt running for a third term was controversial. But the U.S. was emerging from the Great Recession and he promised that he would not involve the country in any foreign war (which of course changed when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor). Roosevelt defeated Willkie in the popular vote by 54.7 to 44.8% and in the Electoral College 449 to 82.
