He had siblings Dixie Plessinger and Peggy Swope. He married Violet Sheeder on May 13, 1967 in Robertsdale, Huntingdon County, and had children Sherrie Stains, John Sheeder, Jennifer Kania, Heather Cornell, Max Sheeder, and Bradley Sheeder. Max Sheeder died at age 82 years old on May 24, 2025 in Altoona, Blair County.
