Maxine Joyce (Van Oss) Farrugia 1927 - 2011

Maxine Joyce (Van Oss) Farrugia was born on August 19, 1927 in Jamestown, Michigan United States to Cornelius Van Oss and Alice Margaret (Holleman) Van Oss, and had a sister Phyllis Ann (Van Oss) Foresman. She married Joseph Agostino Farrugia on July 16, 1955 in Jamestown, Ottawa County, and they were married until Joseph's death on December 21, 2005 in Dorr, Allegan County. She had children Bradley Farrugia, Steve Farrugia, and Mark Farrugia. Maxine Farrugia died at age 83 years old on July 17, 2011 in Byron Center.

In 1927, in the year that Maxine Joyce (Van Oss) Farrugia was born, aviator and media darling Charles Lindbergh, age 25, made the first successful solo TransAtlantic flight. "Lucky Lindy" took off from Long Island in New York and flew to Paris, covering  3,600 statute miles and flying for 33 1⁄2-hours. His plane "The Spirit of St. Louis" was a fabric-covered, single-seat, single-engine "Ryan NYP" high-wing monoplane designed by both Lindbergh and the manufacturer's chief engineer.

In 1939, when she was just 12 years old, in May, Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated film, reached a total international gross of $6.5 million which made it (to then) the most successful sound film of all time. First released in December 1937, it was originally dubbed "Disney's Folly" but the premiere received a standing ovation from the audience. At the 11th Academy Awards in February 1939, Walt Disney won an Academy Honorary Award - a full-size Oscar statuette and seven miniature ones - for Snow White.
