    Melinda Martin's maiden name was Meaker. She was the first wife of Jessie B. Martin. Melinda was born in Hillsdale, Columbia Co., NY. She was the sister of Nelson Meaker, Joshua Meaker and Abigail (Meaker) Borst, also buried in the cemetery. Ann Martin also buried in the cemetery was her daughter.

Called a "difference engine", it calculated logarithms and trigonometric functions. Babbage wanted to eliminate the errors that occurred through the use of human "calculators" by creating a machine to do the same work. While a prototype was begun, it was never completed.
