    Melinda Martin's maiden name was Meaker. She was the first wife of Jessie B. Martin. Melinda was born in Hillsdale, Columbia Co., NY. She was the sister of Nelson Meaker, Joshua Meaker and Abigail (Meaker) Borst, also buried in the cemetery. Ann Martin also buried in the cemetery was her daughter.

While no hostilities occurred, France had demanded that Sweden declare the war and for economic reasons, Sweden complied. Two years later, France occupied Swedish Territory and Sweden sought peace with Great Britain.

In 1822, Melinda was merely 12 years old when on July 3rd, Charles Babbage published a proposal for a forerunner of the modern computer. Called a "difference engine", it calculated logarithms and trigonometric functions. Babbage wanted to eliminate the errors that occurred through the use of human "calculators" by creating a machine to do the same work. While a prototype was begun, it was never completed.
