Melvin Herman Koechner 1928 - 2002

Melvin Herman Koechner of Cameron, Clinton County, Missouri United States was born on April 4, 1928 in Tipton, Moniteau County to Lela Gertrude Koechner and Joseph Francis Koechner. He had siblings Leo Joseph Koechner, Cecil Stephen Koechner, Norbert Robert Koechner, Annetta Mary Koechner, Virgil Joseph Koechner, Evelyn Minnie Gerke, Della Frances Mallen, and James Paul Koechner. He married Irene Elizabeth Koechner on August 19, 1950 in Cameron, Clinton County, and they were married until Melvin's death on December 4, 2002 in Cameron. He had children Linda Kay Smith, Deborah Ann Gates, Diane Marie Dunham, and Jerry Kent Koechner. Melvin Koechner was buried on December 9, 2002 at Cameron Memorial Gardens in Cameron, Caldwell County.

In 1928, in the year that Melvin Herman Koechner was born, aviatrix Amelia Earhart, age 31, became the first woman to fly solo across North America and back in August. In June, she had been part of a 3 man crew that flew the Atlantic Ocean but since she had no instrument training, she couldn't fly the plane - she kept the flight log. The North American flight became one of her many "firsts" as a female pilot.
