    Michael Angelo Preite was born on March 27, 1922 in New York, , New York, United States to parents Dominic Preite (1893-1942) and Nunziata Carmela Trematerra (1896-1936). He was one of 8 children with siblings Mario Preite (1916-1916), Martin F Preite (1918-1993), Marie Preite (1921-1938), Joseph Peter Preite (1924-1964), Dominic Preite (1925-1986), Rocco Dominic Preite (1927-1986), Augustino Preite (1931-1973). Michael registered for the draft on June 30, 1942 at the age of 20 and later enlisted on October 15, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He joined the Army's enlisted branch and held the rank of Private. On October 29, 1942, Michael formally began his enlistment in the Army, dedicating his skills, time, and efforts to the service of his nation. For over three years, Michael Preite served his country until February 7, 1946, when he was honorably discharged, marking the end of his military tenure. He married Rita Anglina Bernardino (1921–1990) on April 12, 1942 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, United States. The couple had 6 children together.
