I was Michael's friend. I lived just up the street on 14th St. near Neck Road. Michael was one of my first friends after I moved to the States from Germany, and I was welcomed into his home by his mom on many a morning to have breakfast before we headed off to school. Mike had a great sense of humor. He'd wave to strangers as if he was lifelong friend or someone running for office, just to get a reaction, which he nearly always did. Our bike ride through the streets of Sheepshead Bay on July 13th, 1977 (his birthday) was a night that we'd relive many times in the next few years. We spent a lot of days and nights at 254 Park during some of the greatest moments of our lives. His ended way too soon, but there are many who'll give testament to a short life well lived.
