Fought in the French & Indian War as a Captain. A natural leader of men. Started the Maryland Militia and when called by George Washington, a personal friend, to Boston for the Revolutionary War, he raised 3 companies of men. He walked from the Ohio frontier to Boston in 23 days while sick. He fought in the Rev. War but became sicker and was sent home but never made it. He died in New York City and received a hero's parade to honor this brave man. He is buried in Trinity Churchyard in Wall Street. His original headstone from 1775 is in the New York City Historical Society's Museum, Luce Center.
