Michael Francis Baker was born on March 7, 1965, in Belcourt, ND to Mary Jane Baker and Joseph L. Thueringer. Michael was born into a family of twenty-five siblings, eleven girls and thirteen boys, with him being the youngest of the boys in the family. Michael was reared and educated in Dunseith, ND, attending school at the Dunseith Public School. Michael attended Clearfield Job Corps in Clearfield, UT. He later moved to Trapper Creek in Darby, MT. He received trades in welding and culinary arts. After completing Job Corps, Michael moved home. Michael served a short prison term where he turned his life around. After getting out, he went to school at Joseph’s Hair School in Bismarck, ND, receiving his license to cut hair. Michael was employed in the Bismarck area but was looking for something more. Michael went back to school to be an electrician. His father-in-law guided him in the profession, as he was a master. Michael completed this trade and was hired. Michael joined the union for electrical IBWE LU 768 Union in Missoula, MT. Michael’s work took him all over the United States and overseas with the military. He worked in Kuwait during the Desert Storm, setting up electrical for our troops stationed there. He worked in Washington on the new hospital, Idaho for ICloud, and Montana for Hungry Horse Dam. Michael took pride in his work, and it showed, and his hands were always busy with work. Michael met Wanda and together they had one child, Jesse L. Baker, and this relationship later dissolved. Michael met Lamoine Hendrickson in Dunseith and they were married on March 30, 1991. The family moved to St. Ignition, MT. Jesse Joined them in the moved and this relationship later dissolved after 20 years. Michael moved again to Ronan, where he met Yvonne Michelle Pierre-Sapiel (MIKI), they were together for 11 years until her passing on November 14, 2016. Michael finally met his significant other, Lisa Vallee of Ronan, MT.
Michael enjoyed listening to music like Bob Dillan, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Abba, as well as 70s and 80s music. Michael enjoyed watching football, western movies, and anything to do with motorcycles and cars. Michael owned a blue two door Dodge Satellite when he was younger, a collector car. Michael loved to ride motorcycles and owned sever Harley Davidson bikes and was a member of a local bike club. When it was nice enough to ride, he was on the road. He loved the wind in his hair and the joy it gave him. He taught his sister Mary how to ride a bike when she was younger. His biggest hobby was working on his bike and adding new things to it to make it more appealing—each bike was hard earned by Michael. Michael enjoyed home cooked meals with his family, enjoying breakfast the most—bacon and eggs was his favorite—knowing it was the most important meal of the day. He was a prime rib and potatoes, or as mom would say, “a meat and potatoes man.” Michael was the type of person who liked to visit and could talk your ear off. As his sister Margaret would say, “he had the gift of gab.” At times, Michael would come home to visit, he would visit all night just to get caught up on what he missed and what had changed. Michael had the best sense of humor and could make anyone laugh by telling one of his stories or by just teasing. Michael also had a contagious laugh. Michael was always helping others because of his kind, gentle, honest, and respectful person. He was always willing to do a good deed for anybody, no matter what the circumstances were.
