    Michael Kocaj was born in 1896 in Poland to Wojciech and Victoria (Bieliec) Kocaj, who were both born in Poland. He arrived in the United States when he was 16 years old, in the year 1912. Michael married Catherine G. "Josephine" Kusienski, (1901 - 1992) on April 29th, 1937 in Scranton, Pennsylvania and they had one daughter, Jeannette (1918 - 2013). Michael died at the age of 84 in Utica, New York and is buried in Whitesboro, Oneida County, New York. See Michael Kocaj: Obituary.

    MR. MICHAEL S. KOCAJ New York Mills - Mr. Michael S. Kocaj, of 3 Beech Place, died Saturday, November 8th, 1980 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center after a long illness. He was born in Poland, Europe, the son of Wojciech and Victoria Bieliec Kocaj and came to this county at an early age. He married Josephine Kusienski on April 29, 1937 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The couple had made their home in New York Mills since 1958. Mr. Kocaj owned and operated the Kocaj Real Estate Agency and was also an agent for the Prudential Insurance Company. He was a member of St. Mary's Church., the New York Mills Senior Citizens and the Whitestown Senior Citizens. Besides his wife, he is survive by a daughter, Mrs. Jeanette Hoffman of Holland Patent. Additional survivors include three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning at 10:30 from Kobielski Funeral Home, 284 Main Street and 11 o'clock from St. Mary's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Whitestown. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9. A Prayer Service will be conducted Monday afternoon at 3. - The Daily Press (Utica, New York) Monday, November 10, 1980.
