    Michael E Swomiak is the child of Anna (1886-1947) and George Swomiak (1885-1954). He was born in New Jersey on October 1, 1913 and had a sister, Mary Sobieski. He was married to Violet Krzeczkowska and they had children together; Emil, Ronald, Diane and Gail. Michael enlisted into the United States Army on Sep 8, 1943. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a Purple Heart recipient, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a life member of VFW Post 2640 and a parishioner of Most Sacred Heart R.C. Church, both in Wallington.

His terms of enlistment were "Enlistment For The Duration Of The War Or Other Emergency, Plus Six Months, Subject To The Discretion Of The President Or Otherwise According To Law". He was discharged in September of 1944 after being admitted to the hospital after receiving injuries due to a gunshot in World War II. He was shot in the tibia and fibula, and experienced paralysis and nerve damage from a rifle bullet. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a Purple Heart recipient, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

    Published Wednesday March 7, 1990 in The Record Newspaper (Hackensack, New Jersey) MICHAEL E. "'STARY" SWOMIAK, 76, of Wallington died Tuesday. Before retiring 14 years ago, he worked for Staffer Chemical Co. in Passaic for 20 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a Purple Heart recipient, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a life member of VFW Post 2640 and a parishioner of Most Sacred Heart R.C. Church, both in Wallington. Surviving are his wife, Violet Krzeczkowski Swomiak; three sons, Emil of Forked River, Dennis of Washingtonville, N.Y., and Ronald of Bayville; two daughters, Diane Mlynarz of Little Ferry Beyville, and Gail Piccolo of Forest Hills, Md.; a sister, Mary Sobieski of Point Pleasant, and 12 grandchildren. Mass will be said Thursday at 11 a.m. at Most Sacred Heart Church, with burial in St. Michael Cemetery, South Hackensack. Visiting is today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Kamienski Funeral Home, Washington.

In 1933, at the age of 20 years old, Mike was alive when Frances Perkins became the first woman to hold a cabinet-level position, appointed by President Roosevelt to serve as Secretary of Labor. She told him that her priorities would be a 40-hour work week, a minimum wage, unemployment compensation, worker’s compensation, abolition of child labor, direct federal aid to the states for unemployment relief, Social Security, a revitalized federal employment service, and universal health insurance. President Roosevelt approved of all of them and most them were implemented during his terms as President. She served until his death in 1945.
