Mike Freiborg of Cumming, Forsyth County, Georgia was born on December 13, 1893 to Peter Jurrens Freiborg and Fentje (Niggendyker). He had siblings Abraham Freiborg, Antje (Freiborg), Harm Freiborg, Elizabeth (Freiborg), Boyolena Allee (Freiborg), Fannie (Freiborg), Marie (Freiborg), Boyo Freiborg, and Hermina (Freiborg). Mike Freiborg died at age 83 years old in January 1977.

In 1893, in the year that Mike Freiborg was born, on February 1st, Thomas Edison's motion picture studio on his laboratory grounds in West Orange New Jersey was completed. The studio was called "Black Maria" and the first movie made and viewed in it was of 3 people pretending to be blacksmiths.

In 1902, by the time he was just 9 years old, about 150 thousand United Mine Workers went on strike in eastern Pennsylvania for a wage increase and more suitable hours. They eventually got a 10% raise and their workday was reduced from 10 hours to 9. Because winter was coming and most people at the time heated their homes with coal, President Teddy Roosevelt arbitrated between the owners and the workers - the first time that the Federal government arbitrated in a strike.
