This is my ggrandparents Charley Rogers 1868-1943 s/o William Mitchell(Pad)Rogers and Julia Ann Smith.Mina F.Whiting 1866-1943 d/o William T.Whiting and Matilda Nesbit.Sons-(l).Milton (r).Edgar Charles(my grandfather).Charley,Mina,Milton and Edgar Charles are all buried at Liberty Cemetery,Cynthiana,Indiana,Posey County.Charley Rogers was a blacksmith and his shop was on North Street in Cynthiana,Indiana.He retired in 1939 after 50 years in that profession.

In 1866, in the year that Mina F.(Whiting) Rogers was born, on May 10th, the "banker's bank" - London bank Overend, Gurney and Company - collapsed, beginning the Panic of 1866. Unemployment went up to 8% and wages went down. Only about 16% of joint-stock companies - a company whose stock is owned jointly by the shareholders - weathered the Panic.

In 1912, Arizona was admitted to the United States in February (on Valentine's Day). It became the 48th state in the Union. Previously a Spanish - then Mexican - territory, the U.S. paid $15 million dollars for the area in 1848. Arizona was the last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the United States.

In 1966, on July 1st, Medicare became available after President Johnson signed into law the Medicare Act in 1965. President Truman had received the first Medicare card since he had been the first to propose national healthcare law. insurance.

In 1973, in October, Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned - President Nixon nominated Gerald Ford for Vice President. Nixon's tax returns came under investigation.
