    MORGAN KOCH Obituary Morgan L. "Louie" Koch, Blue Springs, Mo., passed away August 3, 2011, at the KU Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 9, 1931, to Louis and Aletha (Orendorff) Koch in North Bend, Neb. Louie was a veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post #499 in Blue Springs, Mo. He owned and operated Louie's Alignment and Skyline 66 Service at 15th and 40 Highway in Blue Springs. He loved his dogs and loved to go to the Casinos on Thursdays. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lloyd Koch, sisters, Lorene Chaney and Doris Walk, and his wife, Stella in 2005. He is survived by daughters, Myrna and husband Rea Myers of Blue Springs, and Denise and husband Mike Koch- Neumeyer of Sunset, Utah, grandchildren, Amanda Harrell, LTJG Travis Myers, and Kira Simpson, great grandchildren, Jahsper and Zehryck Harrell, and brother, Wayne Koch of Florida. Services for Louie will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St., Blue Springs, MO (816) 229-3276, with visitation beginning at 12 noon at the Funeral Chapel. In 1931, in the year that Morgan L Koch was born, on May 1st, the Empire State Building opened in New York City. At 1,454 feet (including the roof and antenna), it was the tallest building in the world until the World Trade Center's North Tower was built in 1970. (It is now the 34th tallest.) Opening at the beginning of the Great Depression, most of the offices in the Empire State Building remained unoccupied for years and the observation deck was an equal source of revenue and kept the building profitable.

In 1948, Morgan was 17 years old when on January 30th, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in New Delhi by a member of a Hindu nationalist party who thought that Gandhi was too accommodating to Muslims. The man, Nathuram Godse, shot Gandhi 3 times. He died immediately. The shooter was tried, convicted, and hung in November 1949.
