She had siblings Catherine Lavinia "Kitty" King, Ruby Myrtle King, William Ernest John "Billy" King, Mary Elizabeth King, Vera Blanche King, Dorothy Irene King, Gertrude Evelyn "Popsy" King, Eunice Belinda "Linda" King, Winnifred Daphne Caroline (King) Barr Plant, Francis Henry King, Lillian Mona King, Mabel Victoria (King) Henry, Frederick George Broadbent King, and Albert Edward King. She married Frederick Percy Matthews in 1917, and had a child Norma Doris Matthews. Myra King died at age 98 years old on September 4, 1993 in Melbourne.

In 1895, in the year that Myra Gladys King was born, on March 15th, in County Tipperary, Ireland, Michael Cleary killed his wife of 8 years, Bridget, and burned her body. His defense was that his "wife" was a changeling that was left in his real wife's place when she was abducted by fairies. He was nonetheless convicted and imprisoned for manslaughter. He spent 15 years in prison.

In 1909, at the age of just 14 years old, Myra was alive when explorer Robert Peary, a Rear Admiral in the U.S. Navy, claimed to have been the first to have reached the geographic North Pole. His claim has been disputed for over a century - some say that he ended up 60 miles from the North Pole. Peary was the only navigator on his team and he didn't submit his records for public review.
