Myrtle Rawlinson
Myrtle Sophie Overall Rawlinson was my paternal grandmother. She was born in Douglass, Texas, and died in Cushing, Texas, in a nursing home. To my knowledge, Memama, as we called her, never left Nacogdoches County in her life. She was a housewife, raising 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls. She also lost a baby boy and a baby girl.
Memama enjoyed her life. As a farmwife, she canned the garden vegetables, creating wonderful and nutritious meals for her family. She sewed their clothes on an old treadle Singer sewing machine, which I still have. Her household was always in order and her family was close and happy.
My father, L.H. Rawlinson, was the youngest child, and we lived on the 88 acre house place just across the road from her house. Due to old age and failing health, she was admitted to the nursing home in Cushing in the late 1960s and lived there for the remainder of her life. I will try to post a picture of her here at a later time.
